Jobs & Economic Development
I am committed to supporting the growth of innovative local businesses that strengthen our economy, create good jobs, respect their employees, and contribute to the character of our community. As the city's liaison to the Arcata Chamber of Commerce, I communicate regularly with local business owners.

Sustainable Transportation & Trails
It is imperative that we reduce our dependence on oil and personal automobiles. In my time on the council, I have been a vocal advocate for bicycle lanes and I strongly support the city's planning process for a trail from Arcata to Braecut. As Arcata's representative on the Humboldt Transit Authority, I have worked to improve public transportation countywide.

High-Quality Affordable Housing
The city requires affordable housing in new developments. I am supportive of this policy of "inclusionary zoning" and would like to expand it in the future. City financing is also an important tool for building and providing access to quality affordable housing. I support the Home Ownership Program and projects like the Plaza Point senior housing development.

Public Safety, Health & Comfort
Everyone should feel safe and comfortable while enjoying our downtown areas and our parks. I support prevention-oriented "community policing" methods like foot and bicycle patrols. I also support strengthening enforcement of our community standards by expanding our anti-smoking ordinance to more public places.

Reasonable, Planned Growth
I support protecting our farmlands, open spaces, and forested hillsides from sprawl. This is the goal of General Plan 2020, which confines development to areas that already have infrastructure to support it. I take this document seriously and am committed to protecting it from interests that seek to weaken it.

Poverty Relief & Homeless Services
We have a collective responsibility to reach out and give a hand up to those in our community who have fallen on hard times. I support organizations like the North Coast Resource Center and Arcata House, and projects like the E Street Transitional Shelter.

Renewable Energy
Arcata is on the cutting edge of the renewable energy movement. Let’s work to keep it that way by planning for greater energy independence, with the ultimate goal of moving toward a municipal energy utility, or at least Community Choice Aggregation. These are ideas that I put into our city goals for research and consideration. In the short term, I am supportive of providing financing options for residential efficiency upgrades and solar installation.

Protections for Renters
I am currently working on a Just Cause Eviction ordinance to prevent unfair evictions. I am also supportive of an expanded residential inspection program to ensure rental housing meets health and safety standards.

Opportunities for Youth & Young Adults
The city needs to do more to support opportunities for Arcata's youth. By creating and implementing a youth master plan, we can address the needs and interests of our young people.
